Last night, PopViewers hosted its exclusive tastemaker event series Vibes and Views at NeueHouse in New York City, delivering a night of conversation, connection, and celebration. The event, founded by NBC News Entertainment Journalist Chris Witherspoon, partnered with Bel-Air star Cassandra Freeman’s Creatricity to create an intimate evening that brought together some of the industry’s top voices. Attendees were treated to a private screening of the pilot episode of Netflix’s newest dark comedy, No Good Deed, starring Lisa Kudrow, Ray Romano, Denis Leary, Teyonah Parris, O-T Fagbenle among others.

Following the screening, Teyonah Parris joined Chris Witherspoon and Cassandra Freeman for an insightful conversation about her journey as an actor and her pivotal role in No Good Deed. The discussion spanned Teyonah’s early beginnings, from discovering her love for theater while attending boarding school in South Carolina, to defying the odds and attending the prestigious Juilliard School to study acting. Parris reflected on her meteoric rise, starring in some of Hollywood’s biggest projects, including They Cloned Tyrone, WandaVision, The Marvels, and now No Good Deed.

Teyonah opened up about how she landed the role of Carla Owens. “I met with Liz Feldman, who’s our amazing showrunner and head writer. I was already a fan of her show Dead to Me, so I knew she had a way of balancing humor with really intense emotional storytelling. She told me about the plot of the series, and every time I thought she had revealed the twist, she told me another twist. I was sold,” Parris said.

She also reflected on playing a pregnant woman in No Good Deed, an experience that hit close to home. Parris had given birth to her daughter just months before filming began in 2023. “I thought it would be fun to take this new life experience and infuse it into a character, to hopefully add more depth to it,” she shared.

The evening was as star-studded as it was engaging, with notable attendees including Orange is the New Black’s Kate Mulgrew, best known for her iconic role as Galina ‘Red’ Reznikov, and Manifest actress Mugga.
