Get ready, “Toy Story” fans—Woody, Buzz, and the gang are coming back! “Toy Story 5” is officially set to hit theaters on June 19, 2026, with a fresh story and familiar faces.
“Toy Story 5” Premise
Director Andrew Stanton, who’s been with the series since the beginning, says this new chapter will explore how the toys deal with kids’ growing obsession with screens. At Disney’s D23 Expo, he explained that the toys are now battling for attention against tablets and electronics—a challenge they’ve never faced before. Concept art even shows the toys looking sadly at a kid lost in their tablet. It’s a mix of emotional and funny, with a very current message about play in a tech-heavy world.
Tim Allen Teases “Toy Story 5”
According to Tim Allen, who voices Buzz, this movie will shine a spotlight on Jessie (voiced by Joan Cusack). He also teased an “unbelievable opening scene” with Buzz and hinted at a realignment between Woody and Buzz—yes, the duo is still going strong!
“It’s got some really cool stuff that you haven’t seen before,” Allen said. “I can tell you that it’s a lot about Jessie,” he said. “Tom [Hanks] and I do — Woody and I — do realign. And there’s an unbelievable opening scene with Buzz Lightyear. I can give you that, but I can’t give you much more.”
While the full cast hasn’t been officially announced, Allen confirmed on “The Tonight Show” in late 2023 that both he and Tom Hanks (Woody) were approached to return. Based on what was shown at D23, Jessie, Rex, Forky, and Hamm are all expected to be back too, though voice actor confirmations are still pending.
“Toy Story 4” Ending And Tease
In “Toy Story 4”, Woody left Bonnie’s room to join Bo Peep and become a “lost toy,” while Buzz stayed behind with Jessie, Rex, and the rest of Bonnie’s gang. This new film will pick up from there, exploring how the toys move forward in a tech-filled world.
Andrew Stanton is back in the director’s chair, joined by McKenna Harris as co-director. Harris worked on “Elemental” and directed the Luca spin-off “Ciao Alberto”. She posted about the project in 2024, saying how thrilled she is to be working with Stanton and the team.
No official trailer yet, but fans got a brief teaser at D23 showing Woody, Buzz, and Jessie waving to the audience. Just enough to get people hyped.
“Toy Story 5” lands in theaters on June 19, 2026. Until then, you can stream the first four films on Disney+ to get caught up.
