What to Watch This Weekend

LAST NIGHT IN SOHO

Watch in Theaters

Anya Taylor-Joy and Thomasin McKenzie star in this psychological thriller about Eloise, a young aspiring fashion designer, who finds herself mysteriously transported back to 1960s London in the body of a nightclub singer named Sandie. She soon discovers that Sandie’s life is not as glamorous as it seems to be, and as the past and present begin to fall apart, the consequences are horrifying. The film is directed by Edgar Wright and also marks the final film appearance of the legendary Diana Rigg.

COLIN IN BLACK AND WHITE

Watch on Netflix

Filmmaker Ava DuVernay and former NFL player Colin Kaepernick have teamed up for this six-part Netflix series that follows Kaepernick’s upbringing as a mixed-race teenager from Wisconsin. This is FAR from your typical NFL biopic! This series is focused on teenage Colin as he comes to terms with his Blackness and deals with race and racism head-on. Sounds like a touchdown to us!

SWAGGER

Watch on Apple TV+

Creator Reggie Rock Bythewood is behind this new Apple TV+ series about youth basketball. The series is inspired by NBA superstar Kevin Durant and in a similar manner to “Colin in Black and White,” the series also delves into the realities of growing up Black in America. Although it’s set in the relatively niche world of elite youth basketball, the characters explored here ring universal and this series should be well worth a shot.
