What to Watch This Weekend

WOMEN OF THE MOVEMENT

Watch on ABC

With producers like Jay-Z and Will Smith at the helm, you know this ought to be something special. This miniseries turns the spotlight on Mamie Till Mobley, who devoted her life to seeking justice for her son Emmett Till following his brutal murder in the Jim Crow South. The series stars Adrienne Warren who just won a Tony Award for her incredible performance as Tina Turner. It’s a story that is still far too relevant all of these years later, but one that deserves to be revisited.

EUPHORIA: Season 2

Watch on HBO

The kids ain’t alight. It’s almost hard to believe that the first season of this show aired all the way back in 2019. (We’ve had two special episodes to tide us over in the meantime.) Needless to say, we are MORE than ready to have Rue, Jules, and the entire Euphoria crew back on our screens! Even if that means spiraling over whether or not we properly lived it up enough during our high school days… and whether that’s a good or bad thing.

JUDGE STEVE HARVEY

Watch on ABC

Court is in session and this time the presiding judge is none other than Steve Harvey. Okay… let’s just get this out of the way- no, Steve Harvey is not a real judge with a law degree. But what he lacks in legal experience, he more than makes up for by being the most entertaining host that we have going. This is a courthouse where “common sense presides” and the show serves as a natural extension for Harvey’s witty wisdom that he was known for spewing on his talk show. This is a jury duty summons that you want to receive.

SEARCH PARTY: Season 5 (Watch on HBO Max)

Your favorite hipsters are back to cause more trouble for a fifth and final season. Think Scooby-Doo meets a Bushwick coffee shop meets a UCB improv class and you’ve kind of got the vibe of this show. This season is all about cults. Dory has somehow emerged from the fire at the end of the last season and has had a spiritual awakening that she wants to share with others. If it’s anything like past seasons, we’re sure it’s bound to be a bumpy ride.

THE RIGHTEOUS GEMSTONES: Season 2 (Watch on HBO)

Praise the lord! This hilarious satire about greedy evangelical megachurch pastors is back for a second season! The first season of the show flew under the radar, but those who did discover it uncovered a treasure trove of major laughs. Binge it and hop on board for season 2!

ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL (Watch on PBS)

What’s better than a big plate of comfort food on a cold winter night? That’s essentially how you can think of this show about a veterinarian in northern England. The sweeping English countryside, animals, and a romance? Sign us up.

THE TENDER BAR (Watch on Prime Video)

It’s just bros being bros in this George Clooney-directed coming-of-age dramedy. Think “Boyhood” but with Ben Affleck playing an inspiring bartender uncle with a New York accent.

RUPAUL’S DRAG RACE (Watch on VH1)

Start your engines and may the best drag queen win! There’s a new batch of queens in the werk-room all vying to become America’s next drag superstar! Who will have the charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent to rise above them all? We’ll just have to watch to find out.

ABBOTT ELEMENTARY (Watch on ABC)

Sure, there are plenty of shows about kids in school- but what about the teachers?!? This new ABC workplace comedy follows a group of teachers in a Philadelphia public school who, despite the odds, work to help their students succeed. The show has an incredible cast of actors like Quinta Brunson, Tyler James Williams, and Sheryl Lee Ralph.
